Born 1979 in Stockholm, Sweden

Carola Björk´s pieces explores materiality of time and relation. A sudden loss of her mother in early years has nourished an obsession with relational wounds. She uses her personal experiences and everyday surroundings as a springboard to reason around how others co-create what you call personality. Björk´s works result in objects, paintings, photographs, sometime including words. Material often used is found close to home or on construction sites. The poetics of Björk´s practice arise from corporeal attendance and chance operation. Loss of control is an important element in her work. Wind and water may be part of the making. In her recent painting-objects, she has been devoted to the repetitive gesture of adding paint without an esthetic goal. The layering and spending time has been primary. What Björk´s art often talk about is the difficulty of pointing out where something begins and ends.
