Carola Björk´s pieces explores materiality of time and relation. A sudden loss of an important person in early years has nourished an interest in traces human beings leave behind and collect. Is affected by. Björk uses her personal experiences and everyday surroundings as a springboard to reason around creation of identity. Material often used is found close to home or on construction sites, their meaning reformulated when taken out of there original context. Objects, often obsolete, carrying a history of its own, is reshaped and put together in a conceptual dialogue to create new symbols. Her work result in paintings, sculptures, photographs, sometimes with words describing the work as part of the narrative. Here she shapes a language that speaks of reverence for the transient, the movable – of vulnerability and change. The poetics of Björk´s practice arise from corporeal attendance and chance operation. The loss of control is an important element in her work. In her recent paintings/objects, she has been devoted to the repetitive gesture of adding paint without any esthetic goal. The layering and spending time has been primary. What Björk´s pieces often talks about is the difficulty of pointing out where something begins and ends.
